Tommy D. Dickey (1945 – 2025)

Tommy D. Dickey, oceanographer, technologist, innovator, teacher, mentor, sportsman and lover of dogs (esp. Great Pyrenees), passed away peacefully on 25 January after an extended illness, with both of his sons, Todd and David, at his side.

I am deeply saddened to share the news that Distinguished Professor Emeritus Jeff Dozier passed away on November 17, surrounded by his family.

PhD student Darlene Rini was recently awarded a research grant from The Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP) to conduct data-driven research to understand Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) risk more comprehensively.

New research led by doctoral student Jacqui Vogel and collaborators explores these challenges from the context of science-policy connectivity and climate-ready management

Geography Professor David López-Carr recently won awards for teaching and research, and advanced research on reducing the parasitic disease schistosomiasis in Africa.

This year's Geography Awards Colloquium was held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 in Buchanan 1930.

Geography doctoral student receives Lancaster award for excellence. The Lancaster award recognizes two individuals who have completed dissertations deemed by the Awards Committee as with significant impact on the field in terms of methodological and substantive contributions. 

UCSB Geography Professor Dr. Susie Cassels is a recipient of the 2023-2024 Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award.
