October 11, 2006 - National Geographical Honor Society Revival at UCSB

UCSB's chapter of the national honor society Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) has been around since 1998, but hasn't been active in a number of years. Last spring, a small group of students met to make plans for reviving the group, and now it’s once again an official campus organization, under the name GTU Geography Club (Gamma Theta Upsilon). Anyone enthusiastic about geography is welcome to come to weekly meetings, Mondays at 6:15 pm in the grad lounge (2nd floor Ellison Hall, next to the Star Lab). Activities scheduled for this quarter include a game night, internships discussion, guests from industry, faculty guests, and a meeting about applying to geography grad school. Joining the national honor society is not a prerequisite for participating in club activities, but scholarship opportunities are available for members—so all geography majors should consider joining! The GTU Geography Club website (old version - the new one is coming soon) is http://www.geog.ucsb.edu/gtu/, and the website for the national organization is http://www.gtuhonors.org/. Watch for flyers and announcements about upcoming events!
